Malemia Area Development Committee (ADC) has expressed gratitude at progress of constructing Mpangira Health Post in the area of Senior Chief Malemia in Nsanje district.Chairperson for the ADC, Mathias Chilumba told Shire Valley Online in a recent interview that the project which is being constructed by H and M Building Contractors has taken too long as it was started during the time of Dr. Joseph Chidanti Malunga who was former member of parliament for Nsanje South West constituency but could not continue with his prediccessor Eurita Ntiza Valeta.
“After being empowered by Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN) through their program of Public Expenditure Trucking we gathered courage and followed the development and later engaged the elected members like member of parliament Valeta and councilor of Dinde Ward Boniface Chimpokosera and we are happy that the work has resumed at the facility and soon people will start accessing health services including under five, antinetal and receiving prolonged drugs of Anti-Retroviral Therapy to people living with HIV/Aids.Chilumba
Senior Group village head Mpangira said people in the area find it hard to access health services as they have only Christian Health Associations (CHAM) facility of African Evangelical Church at Chididi Mission.
Mpangira said people travel about 23 kilometers from the hard-to- reach area passing Matandwe Forest Reserve to access medical health at a public hospital at Nsanje Boma.Member of Parliament for the area, Valeta said everything is in order to complete the K18 million health facility which gets its funding from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and said so far she has invested about K3 million towards the project during her tenure of office.
MEJN regional coordinator responsible for the south Mike Mervin Banda said the program they are implementing in Nsanje and Salima are in line with Mw2063 including short term plans called First 10 years implementation (MIP – 1) championed by National Planning Commission.
He however wondered as to why projects under CDF would that long.The organization is implementing the program in Nsanje and Salima districts dubbed Public Expenditure Trucking as part of Enhancing Social Accountability for better First 10 years Implementation (MIP – 1) results and outcomes of Mw2063 with funding from Swedish IM Partner Fund to the tune of K85 milllion annually.In Nsanje the program is being implementing in the areas of Traditional Authorities, Malemia, Chimombo and Ndamera while Salima they are in the area of Traditional Authorities, Ndindi, Makanjira and Kuluunda.
