People from Kacheche in the area of Traditional Authority Jaravikuba have embarked on a project to construct a health centre for the area with just K3 million in their bank account.

Chairperson for Kacheche Development Fund, Douglas Muyaba, said they are optimistic that members of the community including those staying in Lilongwe, Blantyre and other parts of the country will continue contributing until the project comes to completion.

One of the executive members for Kacheche Development, Reverend Timothy Nyasulu said they have written proposals to various organisations and other well-wishers to assist them on the project.

Inkosi Yamakosi Jaravikuwa said he will coordinate other possible sources of funds including Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to ensure that the dream of having a hospital in the area is realised.

Director of Health and Social Services in Mzimba North, Dr Prince Chirwa, said the once completed the facility at Kacheche will ease challenges people have been facing to access health care services.

Member of Parliament for the Area, Jeremiah Chihana, promised to use the CDF in support of the project. The nearest hospitals are at a distance of over 10 kilometers at Enukweni, Rumphi Boma, Bwengu and Engucwini.

The new health facility will also encompass a maternity wing and staff houses among other facilities.
